My Content Writing Journey

The most difficult part of my job is not the long hours with no breaks or trying to understand how people find humor in anything. It’s remembering that I am just a cog in the machine. The one who will be forgotten before she has time to write her story.

I know it seems like I’m complaining, but this gig is pretty sweet if you ask me. No office politics, no dealing with other team members who don’t want to work as hard as you do; all I have to worry about are words and content. Which would be easy enough if they ever wanted what I wrote instead of telling me what they want to be written! But there’s something so satisfying about getting through an article without modifying your voice too much, or spending hours on research and only having the client completely disregard it.

It feels like I have control over something, even if that something is just a website or an organization’s social media content. And that’s a feeling I didn’t get from my previous job. In fact, I was often told what to do and how to do it, with no room for creativity.

Writing content allows me to be my own boss, within reason of course. I can decide what kind of content I want to create or what project I want to work on, but it has to be something that the client is interested in, and they’re always deciding how much content we need and where it needs to go.

But that’s the beauty of content writing; it’s always changing, always new. You’re never quite sure what you’ll be working on next, and that’s part of the excitement for me. I never know what challenge I’ll be facing tomorrow, but I can guarantee it will be something different from today.

So if you’re looking for a content writer and you’re not sure where to start, just keep these things in mind: creative control, variety, and satisfaction. These are some of the reasons why I love my job, and I hope they resonate with you too. Thanks for reading!
